The general aim of the project is to support and promote awareness of the role of parents and teachers as active participants in the growth path of young people at the various stages of their lives, in a preventive perspective of discomfort situations and the promotion of comfort.

"Fare Famiglia" is a project funded by the Department of Educational and School Services of the City of Rome through funds from the Law 285/97. It is managed in partnership with "La Tenda" and the Parsec Social Cooperative.

AREA OF INTERVENTION

The project is addressed to families and schools of the V District and it aims at supporting and promoting the educational role of families and schools, through the enhancement of their skills.

BRIEF HISTORY

rn

The project started in January 2013 and has a term of one year.Thanks to the local presence of Parsec and the association La Tenda with the service Centro per le Famiglie, it has been possible to detect many emerging needs.

There has been a strong increase in demand from the services in order to give support to families with psychological problems as well as with socio-economic difficulties; a deficiency in access to and use of the network of services in the area together with a lack of cooperation and networking between public sector, private sector, third sector and civil society has been also highlighted.

In addition, there has been an increased demand by families for educational support and for dealing with the legal and paralegal procedures that they experience. The increase of families with multiple problems is apparent, but the need to intervene in the transformation of today's families: reconstituted families, single parents and immigrants is also evident.

The need to bring the family to be an important "social subject", to open up and take root in the local context, to expand its network of relationships and to participate actively in community life has emerged. The family must again be aware of its important role both as a agency of socialization as well as the mediator between the individual and society.

OBJECTIVES

rn

The main objective is to support and promote the educational role of the family and the school, through the specific strengthening of all its members. 'Fare Famiglia' aims to create spaces to support families and the school, and to strengthen the parent-teacher relationship in order to promote awareness of their role as educators and trainers.

The above mentioned objective is implemented by improving:

- Specific skills (empowerment) and the psycho-social condition, on the part of the parents, regarding their educational functions;

rn

- The social role of families eligible for the project in the management and resolution of family problems;

rn

- To give information on the facilities and the services in the V district of Rome and the issues concerning the educational role of the family;

rn

- Network / school in the V district of Rome; as a different and complementary space to the teaching one through a communication experience that allows the mutual exchange among all members of the group.

TOOLS AND ACTIVITIES

rn

In particular actions will be implemented that will tend to emphasize the educational role of the family in the parent-child relationship. Specifically structured communication channels are designed to facilitate access to information and the process of becoming aware of the role of parental education.

- Support to parents and couples, so that the parent recognizes his/her educational responsibilities, enhances his/her specific skills to the educational functions; therefore meetings on parental education will be scheduled;

- Enhancement of parenting skills in the management and resolution of family issues through the creation of a network of mutual help between families, a space for exchange of experiences and best practices. Telephone counselling and advice via e-mail will be also activated;

- Information and awareness campaigns through various communication channels, on facilities and services in the area, so that through networking and the use of social networks has improved accessibility to the services and knowledge of the topic in question, then it will create a account in social networks on the network as a space for promoting the services of the project and of the territory;

- Dialogue and sharing of educational methods between school staff and parents: a series of meetings within the elementary schools, middle and high schools of the V District, so that parents and teachers can develop a real-time comparison and which is built with the aim of sharing the educational methods to be adopted for the child in education. The minor is being supported in his/her difficulties if he/she is put in a position to communicate with adult "coordinated".figures

One listening point addressed to children, parents and teachers, particularly in the Schools Perlasca and Vespucci will be activated. Interventions will be carried out in the most problematic class groups identified by the teachers. Workshops and seminars on educational styles, bullying, preventing the use of drugs, diversity and integration, risk factors and protective use of the Internet will be organized.

NETWORK AND TERRITORY

Networking is an important activity in this project and is cross-cutting for all activities, just like the participatory methodology implemented in the project.

The service will also benefit from being part of a network already active in local authorities, schools and industrial bodies.

The network connections will be schools, local associations, social services, the ASL RMB, families and children. The threads are woven by the relationships that will be established between people.

The premises are in Piazza Bargellini 13 and are open from Monday to Wednesday from 15:00 to 20:00 hrs;

Cases can be referred by the Social Services workers, by ASL RMB and by the private social sector.

THE TEAM

rn

The team consists of a manager with the role of supervisor, a coordinator in charge of networking, two psychotherapists who follow the work with the families in the Service and in the schools.

rn

All operators have past experience in the sector and possess specific skills that relate to both the family and the school contexts.

EVALUATION  

rn

An in itinere evaluation will be conducted. For this purpose, team meetings and cases' supervision are fundamental.

rn

The foreseen evaluation approach is based on:

rn

- the process evaluation, i.e. the set of operating and organizational procedures put in place for the implementation of the measures envisaged by the project;

rn

- the assessment of the outcome, i.e. the verification of the results produced;

rn

- the assessment of the satisfaction degree reached by the recipients involved.
